Metamorphosis

Browsing on Etsy, we came lately across a new shop catfishgirlstudios.
The artist, Lizzy, collects shells, urchins, coral and other beach findings and metamophose them to almost human beings. Or should I say, that she calls the spirits living in the shells and brings them to the surface so that we all can see them?

It is so cleverly done that you can hardly see where the shell ends and the art begins.

Isn't this a funny one?

The coral reminds me of the mandragora mythe.

This one is ethereal, almost transparent.

And this guy is waaay coool.

Isn't overwhelming, how much talent ?

Our Creative Space...

Beside the sea urchins and shells we have also been collecting driftwood for many years. We have made many many driftwood pendants and sold them in our supply shop.

A project I have wanted to do for a long time is making driftwood boats. Finding the perfect pieces for such projects can take a while. But finally I have started to make some.

Drilling, hammering, puzzeling, and fitting everything together...

I love the fact that some 'trash' can become something pretty!

The sails are made of a very old shabby embroidery.

Several are already available in our Giftshop, and there will be some more to come as it is so much fun to make them!

Introducing: Toffee and the Cookies

In Turkey, cocker spaniels are called 'cooker', thus the name cookies for these four eatable siblings. How we got them: Five years ago, the owner of their mother left his pregnant dog in the care of the vet for several months when he was abroad. As payment, she -the vet- could keep the pups.
For months we could hear the puppies crying behind a door when ever we went to the vet with one of our dogs. She complained that they keep her awake at night and she only had suceeded in selling one of them. Finally I couldn't resist and made a deal with her:  we would care for the pups and she could sell them from our home and we would keep two of the girls for our trouble.
The vet was more than happy with the deal and the door went open to reveal a totally dark room and seven filthy two months old puppies. They all had diarrea because she kept them on a bread and milk diet, despite the fact that she sold all brands of dog food.

She sold three puppies from our house, so we kept two girls and two boys, more than we had bargained for, but what the hell they are the sweetest. And the vet? After this she wasn't our vet any more. Who wants a vet who mistreats animals?
This is Toffee or Toffee Cake. In the beginning both boys were called Toffee because we couldn't keep them appart, but as adults he and his brother Earnie are totally different in looks and caracter.

Toffee is a good soul, a bit aloof, sweet to the point of boring and extremely tolerant with the rest of the pack.

Introducing: Elsie

We found Elsie on July 2nd 2005, when we were up and about in the middle of the night because Estella had to catch a shuttle to the airport. Skin and bones, tick ridden and more dead than alive, she was in no time my very favorite. Gosh, how crazy can you be about a doggie!

She has obviously suffered a lot in peoples hands: her tail has been cut and she has a protuding rib where somebody kicked her and healed wrongly, so she is weary and does not like to be touched much, but she is strong and proud in her unique way and despite being the smallest, she is the alpha female of the pack.

She is an old doggie now, about ten, I guess, funny and stuborn as they come and so beloved as a child.

It has been incredibly rainy here the past few days. So much rain that our roof couldn't hold everything out and quite some places in the house got wet. Worst place was on top of our laptops, one died during the battle with water the other survived with some medical attention. Good thing out of it, it gave us the excuse to finally renew our super slow and dusty laptops.

Tonights outfit is ready for rain, in a fashionable way :)
Have a great weekend everyone!

Our Creative Space...

This week an embellished/ revamped bag. I love the braided straps of the bag but it needed some decoration as it was completly plain and boring.

Mum found this lovely vintage lace and I thought it would be fun to give it some red embroidered details, so instead of attaching the lace with a hidden stich it got embroidered by hand, I love how it turned out!

It also got brass feet at the bottom, a new zipper and a new lining with a yummy Gingham.
It will be available in our bagshop.
