Real Handmade

Most people on Etsy are by now aware of the huge blunder Etsy made with a Featured (re)seller on Etsy. Many people noticed that she had manicured hands although she was claiming to make furniture, if you are not aware yet why thousands of Etsy sellers are protesting you can find two good reports on Regretsy here and here.

So here we are after almost 5 years on Etsy working our bumms off, and me having a neck hernia on the age of 28 from endless hours spent at the workbench and the computer, and nowhere close to manicured hands while resellers are selling like crazy without getting their hands dirty, living in Malibu and making the big bucks on a so called handmade site :(

  1. Totally agree Estella.
Would be much easier for me too to just go in the bazaar and pick a few things that kinda look handmade and resell. How cute is that? Maybe then Etsy would feature me too :)

  3. Totally agree, Estella.
Etsy should wake up and realize it is not immortal or infallible, and that it is people-driven.
The real handmade artists work so hard to get people come and buy from Etsy, we write blogs, we post on facebook, etc, driving a lot of traffic towards Etsy, making it a popular site, so that resellers get rich, customers get frustrated and we end up having less and less sales.

Sorry for your hernia, I hope Etsy will make it up to you!

  4. Agree! After all there are plenty of Chinese shops in my area where I could buy decent looking stuff and sell it for a higher price.

  5. Healing vibes for you! ~~~~~ Your protest is inspiring but also paintful! I am so sorry that you had to wear the neckpiece, i hope it will get better in time! And about resellers on etsy... Oh well, I am sure they will have their own "neckpieces", because of the "karma"!

  7. Oh Estella, healing vibes to you!!!!! And HUGS!!!!!!!!!
    Absolutely agree with you!!!!!!!!!!!
And even though we may never get rich money-wise, we ARE rich because creating handmade-with-love is our greatest richness! To me, it's my daily therapy.
Some time ago I read in a blog: "ART is not something you can 'choose'". YES, we will never ever resell our hearts and souls, never.
    Kisses xxx

Get well soon my dear and don't worry with whatever happens on Etsy, they always changing the rules depend of what the share holder want to make more profit!

  30. Dear Estella, sending you healing vibes. Hope, you get better soon.
    We know what you feel.
Being self employed is a challenge, being self employed and making handmade is already a incredible challenge. And this just feels like a slap on the face with a loud laugh about our own stupidness to not break the rules.

  34. I feel hurt and abandoned by Etsy. I'll keep a presence on there due to having many friends through it, but I'm moving most of my items to two other retailing sites. I've had enough...
