The Fordite Bag

As many didn't know Faux Chenille we wanted to show you the result!
Freshly listed in our bag shop.

And as we mentioned Fordite, here you can see why our bag reminds us of it and here some pictures and the process of Fordite:

Fordite also known as Dagenham agate is a very rare and special material that was a by product of the process of spraying multiple units in the spray booths at the Ford plant. It was made from the overspray of auto paint that accumulated and built up on certain pieces of equipment in the spray booths over a long period of time. Each layer being baked many times over. They are very light in weight and hardwearing.

Our Creative Space...

I've been forever planning to try my hand at making faux chenille, but the process requires a clothes dryer, and we only very recently adquired one, so finally I could do it.
The process starts of course with the layering of fabrics, and since they were thin fabrics, I over did it and ended up with eighteen layers! Half of that would had been more than enough.
Then stitching the whole package on the diagonal en cutting the layers between the stitches.

That is a lot of work, but I couldn't find electric scissors in our little town.

This is the way it looks before washing.

And after washing and drying the result is a multicolored fluffy fabric that strongly reminds me of fordite, that wonderful layered stuff obtained from the dried up layers of paint in the automobil industry, therefore the name fordite. Fordite cabochons are used in jewelry, but they are very rare nowadays because of new painting techniques that don't leave residues.

Anyhow, my new chenille fabric together with some recycled leather are in the process of becoming a bag, I'll name it the fordite bag.

Monday Moodboard

Two Monday Moodboards in a row, because some crazy hectic days came in between. After 2 weeks our house was dirty and a mess, luggage needed to be put in place, tons of laundry, 5 neglected online shops, paper work and 14 love-junky-doggies who missed us very much during our absence kept us busy. But beside that all, our arrival came with some technical problems as my laptop desided to go on strike and my mums was very relaxed so that a window opens in 10 minutes (she actually started with a crochet project to kill time while waiting).
So this was our reason for neglecting our blog. But my laptop is now like a teenage girl again, young and fresh (knocks on wood) and mums will have a make-over too, very soon :)
So our absence is over and we are now finally back, for real, I hope!

Monday Moodboard

This week's mood is inspired by Anne Frank, the most know and discussed Jewish victim of the Holocaust. Her dairy has been read by millions worldwide.

The last day that we where in Amsterdam I visited her house and her statue near it. The Anne Frank house is a museum visited by hundreds a day, 65 years after her death.

And the Westertoren, the tower Anne mentioned a few times in her journal as she loved the sound of it so much.

We are back home now, feels good to get started with our work and passion and Etsy of course :)

Flea market Heaven

One of the few things we miss in Turkey are flea markets. We have feed our hunger for them by going to a few of them these days.

With some good finding and matching you can decorate your home completely from the flea market, unique, cheap and gorgeous, if you ask me.

I always love how those weird things and combinations of all kind of things somehow match nicely together.

Oh and yes we have an excess luggage problem, as our shopping brakes refused to work :)

Alice in Amsterdam

We went to the movies yesterday evening. The reason to share this is because of the amazing cinema we went to. Tuschinski theater is an amazing piece of Architectural art.

Originally exploited by Abraham Icek Tuschinski, who had it built in 1921 at a cost of 4 million guilders, in a spectacular mix of styles, as designed by Hijman Louis de Jong; Amsterdam School, Jugendstil, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The main auditorium is usually the one in which movies premiere in the Netherlands.
The façade, in its own style of Art Deco with oriental influences, was designed to help people get a feeling that they were being led into an illusion. The main auditorium was originally not designed just as a movie theatre and still has a stage and organ, on which performances are still given. (information from wikipedia)

The interior is amazing, especially love all the different kind of lampshades.

Between 1998 and 2002 the Theater was closed for a huge renovation.

The atmosphere is wonderful, like a warm and luxorious living room.

If you ever visit Amsterdam make sure to visit Tuschinski, but do make sure to go to a movie which plays in Salon 1, 2 or 3 as those are the original old ones. There is an new wing attached to the cinema and the salons are modern and boring there.

Where ever you look, the details are breathtaking.

And we went from one wonder....

...to Wonderland....
