Life Loss

Today the weather was fine and we could start with the work. A part of the roof will make room for a bigger roof terrace. Unfortunately it is not going to be without lost of lifes.
Tucked deep under the roof tiles the workers found a nest with very young tiny birds. We moved the nest to an other area, but have not much hope that the mother with find the babies or accept them as her own if she does.

So sad...

We put them on a higher part out of the wind.

A couple of hours later...an other nest. This time with beautiful speckled eggs as little as a finger nail.
More loss...

So much care went into the building of those nests...

And this is how the roof looks now.

Our Creative Space...

As I mentioned yesterday we are stuck inside without internet or anything else to do. Luckely we both have our books and a creative project with us.

So although we are not at home we are still having a creative space.

I am going to finish an unfinished vintage embroidered table cloth. We also have a huge bunch of vintage embroidery thread which I needed to sort out to actually find and use anything, perfect job for the coming days.

Mum is making progress in her knitting, after some trial and errors she is now getting the hang of this algebra pattern.

New Adventures

We are not at home for the coming 7 to 10 days.

A very good friend from Holland has a house in another town and it needs some work on the roof which will mum be leading the workers etc. We hit the roads yesterday.

Great views and wonderful weather, which makes the journey fun.

Unfortunatly we got stuck in a town because of a cycling competiton, all roads were blocked and we needed to wait a while to get through. We were lucky though as some had been waiting for hours, weirdness!

But no time is lost in our household and mum started knitting in the car :)

Some more bendy bumpy roads, and finally after quite some hours we arrived to our destination.

Unfortunatly it started to rain today so the roof project is on hold and we are enjoying some quiet time, although without internet we are having some withdrawal symptoms.

To continue…

Our Creative Space...

We are, like always, in the middle of many projects. But I think mums new smocking project deserves the spotlights! Super cool, don't you think?

It reminds me of a brick wall, but the fabric is soft and cuddly.

It still needs all the tiny finishing touches to become a bag, will show you the results ones it is finished!
It also looks like she is planning more, as she discovered other techniques and tried them out,

Our Creative Space...

This week's project is an embroidered bag. I am no good at embroidery, Estella is the embroidery master, but this is a fairly simple project, so I can do it.

Free motion machine stitching and applique and french knots on top.

Isn't my sewing basket a beauty? It belonged to my grandmother. I am not sure, but I think that she weaved it her self. The lining was shot, so I made a new one with age appropiate fabric.
The scissors belonged to my grandfather's father, who was a doctor, they are doctor's scissors, some hundred and forty years old. As far as I know, since his death in 1920, they were always in use in the sewing basket, have never been sharpened and are in perfect condition.

The crochetted flowers and the crochet cotton that I use for the embroidery are from my favorite Etsy shop,
EarlyAttic, a paradise for trims and vintage sewing notions.
And me...true vintage as well :)

Our Creative Space...

This piece of embroidery has been started a few decades ago by someone unknown...

I will finish it to give it a new life, in a new place, in a new generation :)
In the mean time mum is busy with some smocking magic, results can be seen soon!

Wedding Bouquet

Quite a while ago I showed you some preparations for a bridal bouquet, actually four bouquets. One for the bride two for the bride's daughters and one for the Maid of Honor.

The bride has sent us some beautiful pictures, which I wanted to share so that you can also see the finished pieces. We also made jewelry for the four ladies.

It was a great experience and involved lots of work, but such an honor to help prepair someone's most important day!
