Birds Bring Spring

A fun little experiment gave some lovely results. Yesterday I burned some copper scrap wire to remove a plastic protection layer and give it a rustic vibe. They have these funny wiggly shapes as they were tests from our course from 2 years ago where we had to exercise making sharp hooks :)
After that the entire mass got cleaned in the tumbler.

After a few hours of figuring out these adorable earrings were the result.

The flowers and leaves are very fine mother of pearl. The eggs are pearls and finally vintage plastic birdies. These pretties are available at StaroftheEast.

They are one of a kind and I can't get over how cute they are :)

Funny enough I had this book right near me when I made it but I did not realize how much they matched before mum pointed it out. I did not look at it so it is just a fun coincident.
As a Potter fan I had to have it of course :)

Stork Rescue

This week we saw a nice kind of news in the papers.

The african storks come in the summer in great numbers to the Aegean Turkish coast to nest and breed.
Most of them choose residence in the high voltage masts, resulting in hundreds of dead storks, mostly when the babies start to fly.

To avoid this and also the power cuts that it causes, Aydem, the energy provider for the Aegean region has started to place platforms attached to the masts but about 2 meter higher. The hope is that it will save many storks. More than three hundred of these platforms are in the planning.

Every year, a stork couple gets three to five babies. Isn't it nice?

Nothing Goes As Planned

We learned that again, as the roof terrace didn't go as planned at all. This is the latest state of it and it will stay like this for another week as we came back home so that it all can dry. We will be going back next week to finish it off but in the mean time we have been able to catch up work and errands at home.

On the way back we saw a few huge nests of Storks. The fun thing is that little birds take advantage of the safe and high place and make nests on the side of the big nest, partly already isolated, very smart.

And these ladies were chatting and wished us a safe journey :)

We are now back home, catching our breath and organizing our new supplies which we purchased in Izmir and finishing orders of the past 10 days!

Life Loss

Today the weather was fine and we could start with the work. A part of the roof will make room for a bigger roof terrace. Unfortunately it is not going to be without lost of lifes.
Tucked deep under the roof tiles the workers found a nest with very young tiny birds. We moved the nest to an other area, but have not much hope that the mother with find the babies or accept them as her own if she does.

So sad...

We put them on a higher part out of the wind.

A couple of hours later...an other nest. This time with beautiful speckled eggs as little as a finger nail.
More loss...

So much care went into the building of those nests...

And this is how the roof looks now.
