Spring is Here

Today the sun was shining, the weather perfect, daisies are popping up everywhere and birds are singing: Spring is here. We took advantage of this wonderful weather right away and had a lovely breakfast near a lake.

We had the place for ourselves, the advantage of self employment is that we do not need to wait for the weekend to arrive to have a little escape, during the weekends these kind of places are often full with families.

Home made bread and jams, freshly squeezed orange juice and other yummy things.

With a nicely filled belly we went to the shore, found some shells, got some sun and fresh air and restocked some inspiration from nature, ready to get back to work :)

Our Creative Space...

Our huge re-organization of our work space is slowly getting somewhere, well it was about time as we have been on it for weeks :)

We now have kitchen cabinets with sink and running water, which means more storage thanks to the nice big drawers and more working space and very handy for all work that requires water; our kitchen will now only be for cooking :)

In between we are also making new items for the shops of course, hence the extreme slowness of the cleaning up of our work space. But can you blame us? Who would want to clean up mess when there are so many fun things to do.

This weekend I've worked in the garden in between our normal work. There was a shower place in our garden to clean of sand and salt when returning from the beach, but we never used it and it was only ugly and took space. So I have been filling it up with stones in the same way as our garden path is made. The stones are big and heavy and I'm aching all over today :) But it is finished only in between the stones it has to be filled with cement.

Spring is playing Hide and Seek these days. One moment the sun is shining and the next moment it is raining. With snow at alot of places this year's March is very strange but I'm guessing that Spring will soon win the battle with winter :)

Wishing you a Sunny week!

Our Creative Space...

You might know the saying: 'Things have to get worse before they get better'. At the moment we are at a terrible 'worse' state of reorganizing our workspace. We can't find a thing and we hardly have space to turn ourselves but soon our space will be even better then before, atleast that is the plan.

We bought some more storage cabinets during our last visit at IKEA and some furniture will be removed or changed of place to create even more space.

Through the years we have gotten more and more tools and supplies and we just really had to accomodate according to that, hopefully we can show you a spic and span working space soon :)

Our Creative Space...

For online sellers packaging is a never ending topic. While some only see it as a protection for their often long journeys others make art pieces of their packages.
With our sea urchin items we have to buy strong and expensive boxes to be sure that everything arrives safe, we also do our best to make it pretty. But with larger objects it becomes harder. I showed you a way to recycle boxes here and here is an additional post.

For our bags we often use boxes, and for smaller purses bubble mailers. But we also have the very big weekenders which don't fit in a box. So for the very larger purses or for those who simply do not want to fit in anything we have been wanting to make nice bags to sent safely but also for the owner to storage the weekender or purse in to keep it clean.

We found a beautiful starfish embroidery pattern for our sewing machine and loved the outcome.
Under the star we wanted StarBags written under it, for a nice and professional look.
Bernina's users manuals should be some sort of crime, a huge book that is totally not understandable, it could have been much clearer with less words and more actual descriptions. Anyway as the manuel was no help I got what I wanted with a little snooping around on the machine.

Pretty cool, don't you think? While typing StarBags I also found a way to make the word roundish which I like alot.

And here is the result, a nice classy bag and in it is a weekender, it closes with strings and is a super strong double layered fabric, perfect to avoid dust and dirt when you are not using your StarBag :)
