A little Road Trip; Nysa Ancient City
The other day we went for a little road trip for some vintage shopping. But we always try to make it a little vacation as well, there are so many places to visit here.
We have an incredible amount of poppies this year, fields full of them, at the side of the roads, everywhere. They are usually there for just a week or two so I'm so happy l got to capture these cows in such a field.
It is also the time of year that storks come to have their babies. I one village that we past literally every electricity pole had a nest with a stork inside.
I love that little birds make use of the huge nests and that storks mate for life and come find each other every year.
And after our little shopping we went to the ancient ruins of Nysa.

Our Season
The Summer season is ending here, which means that our treasure hunting season has started. Now that the beaches are abandoned, the weather cooler, and the sea rougher it is the time for us to explore.
Today was the first time after months that we went to the beach, on our way there we saw this abandoned 'enterprise', most likely someone tried to sell homemade honey but these roads are even during Summer pretty slow so I think business went bad.
The roads are rough and we always arrive weak and dizzy all over :) But the view and treasures always make our trip worth it.
Sea urchins do not wash ashore everywhere, they like rough rocky seas and beaches.
Here you see one happily in the sea, which of course, we leave in peace.
The ones we take are washed ashore and are hiding between leaves, wood and other rubble.
The weather was perfect.
And the view was therapeutic.
Near the shores grow all kind of wild flowers, the weather is still so warm that it more seems like the beginning of Summer with still hints of Spring.
We were not the only one enjoying the calm sea, here is a Stork chilling out :)
Hope you enjoyed the trip with us!

Stork Rescue
This week we saw a nice kind of news in the papers.
The african storks come in the summer in great numbers to the Aegean Turkish coast to nest and breed.
Most of them choose residence in the high voltage masts, resulting in hundreds of dead storks, mostly when the babies start to fly.
To avoid this and also the power cuts that it causes, Aydem, the energy provider for the Aegean region has started to place platforms attached to the masts but about 2 meter higher. The hope is that it will save many storks. More than three hundred of these platforms are in the planning.
Every year, a stork couple gets three to five babies. Isn't it nice?

Nothing Goes As Planned
We learned that again, as the roof terrace didn't go as planned at all. This is the latest state of it and it will stay like this for another week as we came back home so that it all can dry. We will be going back next week to finish it off but in the mean time we have been able to catch up work and errands at home.
On the way back we saw a few huge nests of Storks. The fun thing is that little birds take advantage of the safe and high place and make nests on the side of the big nest, partly already isolated, very smart.
And these ladies were chatting and wished us a safe journey :)
We are now back home, catching our breath and organizing our new supplies which we purchased in Izmir and finishing orders of the past 10 days!
