A Love Letter to a Mum

Aziz Nesin, born Mehmet Nusret, (20 December 1915 – 6 July 1995) was a Turkish writer, humorist and the author of more than 100 books. Born in a time when Turks did not have official surnames, he had to adopt one after the Surname Law of 1934 was passed. He chose the surname "Nesin". In Turkish, Nesin? means, What are you?
After serving as a career officer for several years, he became the editor of a series of satirical periodicals with a socialist slant. He was jailed several times and placed under surveillance by the National Security Service for his political views.
Here below is a poem he wrote about his mother, which touched me deeply, below you'll find the translation, his mother lived mostly before the Turkish republic was established, during the Ottoman Empire. (source: wikipedia)

Happy Mother's day to all good mothers out there!

ANNEMİN ANISINA

Bütün anneler annelerin en güzeli,
Sen, en güzellerin güzeli.
Onüçünde evlendin,
Onbeşinde beni doğurdun,
Yirmialtı yaşındaydın,
Yaşamadan öldün.
Sevgi taşan bu yüreği sana borçluyum.
Bir resmin bile yok bende,
Fotoğraf çektirmek günahtı.
Ne sinema seyrettin, ne tiyatro.
Elektrik, havagazı, su, soba
Ve karyola bile yoktu evinde.
Denize giremedin,
Okuma yazma bilmedin.
Güzel gözlerin,
Kara peçenin arkasından baktı dünyaya.
Yirmialtı yaşındayken
Yaşamadan öldün.
Anneler artık yaşamadan ölmeyecek,
Böyle gelmiş,
Ama böyle gitmeyecek.

IN MEMORY OF MY MOTHER

Of all the mothers, you are the very best,
You, the prettiest of the pretty.

Married at thirteen,
Gave birth to me at fifteen,
You were twenty-six,
When died without living.

I owe you this loving heart.

I don't even have your photograph,
It was a sin, having photographs taken.
You saw movies nor theater.
You had at home no electricity, no water, gas or stove,
Not even a bed you had.

You didn't see the sea,
You could not read or write.
Your beautiful eyes,
Watched the world from behind the black veil.

Twenty-six years old,
You died without living.

Mothers will not die without living anymore,
It was like that,
But it won't be like that.

Moo Cards

I think we are one of the last people in the creative world who are giving mini Moo cards a try :)
They took me a good part of an entire day to make as I made 25 different compositions. We didn't want them to be very promotional but still representing our work. So I went for natural compositions, mostly with sea treasures we found on the beach.

The back side has a part of the Sea Fever peom written by John Masefield, with the very appropriate words:

I must go down to the seas again,
to the lonely sea and the sky.
And all I ask is a tall ship
and a star to steer her by...

With sea and star in it I loved it!

The fronts are with seashells, coral, beach pottery, stones, pebbles, starfishes, seahorse, sanddollars and more. They will be added randomly with sea themed purchases. Pictures of pictures are not very pretty they look really nice in real.

Happy New Year

In the New Year,
we wish you the best year you’ve ever had,
and that each New Year
will be better than the last.
May you realize your fondest dreams
and take time to recognize and enjoy
each and every blessing.
Happy New Year,
And many more!

Some Days I Think I'd Prefer To Be A Cat

This cat was lying in a tree, with the view of the sea, how good can life be?

Somedays I think I'd prefer to be a cat
snoozing on the sofa
dreaming of this and that
when my life is full of misery
I think of the cats that have it easy
no need to apologise
no need to worry
no need to be sorry
they yawn and just close their eyes
When they're stretched out by the flaming fire
it's plain to see
they have no guilty desire
they just let it be
no need to apologise
no need to worry
no need to be sorry
they yawn and just close their eyes
so carefree
so carefree
fueling my jealousy
carefree
carefree
what kind of cat would I be?

Wind

Who Has Seen the Wind?
Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you.
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I.
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.

No Time at all...

As we are extremly busy with making our new workplace and moving, we haven't have alot of time to do our normal 'things'. There for this poem was quite in place....

(Time Goes By....)

Time

Was TIME born with all the sky?
Can TIME suffer and also die?
Is TIME flat? Or is TIME round?
Where is TIME? Can TIME be found?
Is TIME there with each beat of the heart?
Was TIME there from the very start?
Must TIME go to that being made?
Does TIME show by that being fade?
Can TIME give and also take?
Must TIME be for that to make?
Does TIME provide a way dimensions are spaced?
Are all creatures of TIME somehow inwardly paced?
Is all manner of TIME with all matter that be?
Does TIME flow endlessly?
How does the future with TIME flow past?
Does TIME move slow? Can TIME move fast?
Is TIME rough? Or is TIME smooth?
Can TIME have inflame? How does TIME soothe?
Is TIME bound? Or is TIME free?
Is TIME that what is meant to be?
