Epic underwater photoshoot

The first time I saw these amazing pictures by Benjamin Von Wong it totally blew my mind. But the fact that it was not photoshopped but actually really taken in the sea, instead of a swimming pool and major photoshop afterwards like these kind of shoots are usually done, made it even more special to me. I am a diver myself and my love for the sea is of course pretty obvious if you know our work :)

I added the videos about this shoot below, the enthusiasm of the team is wonderful and the way they did it is amazing. The models are both free divers too, a normal model would not be able to hold her breath so long and wouldn't be at ease enough to take descent pictures.

Touching the coral reefs is forbidden to protect the natural environment so the pictures needed to be taken with the illusion that the models were touching the place without touching and often were bound by their feet to avoid that they drift away while shooting, you will see all these details in the videos.

The pictures are really surreal and amazing, you'll love the photographer too he is so passionate about his job that you will get itchy to do something amazing too. I also loved the fact that he did this shoot 1 day after he got is diving licence so he is not an experienced diver at all.

Mermaid Wedding Bouquet

For the past few days I was busy with a new bridal bouquet for the shop. Usually we make these according to a bride's wish which is fun but this was fun as I could do whatever I wanted.
I went for a combination that is not me, pink and bling, but somehow the result turned out to be very pretty even for a not-girly-girl :)

On top of the sea urchin I attached rhinestone rhondelles. As sea urchins have holes from top to bottom there is always need for some kind of cover at the centers.

I used 3 large rhinestone flowers, which were brooches but I securely attached them to strong stems. Plastic branches to give a coral effect but without being fragile, pink organza flowers and lots of rhinestones.

Each element is attached to a wire wrapped stem, which are then each one by one also wrapped with pink flower ribbon.

The handle of the bouquet is made with a beautiful vintage pink fabric, silk ribbon and rhinestone starfishes.

Perfect for a mermaid with legs :)

Collaboration with Azulado

For several months Sandra from Azulado and I have been talking about working together on a collection. I love her sea inspired pottery like this beautiful barnacle bowl and the spoon dish below in shape of a fish. She also makes ceramic jewelry, you can find them in her shop.

Mean while last week her first package arrived with supplies to use in our jewelry.

I gave an idea of what I wanted and Sandra made some yummy cabochons, the starfishes are funny enough her idea, I had not thought of a star :)

And here are my first two pieces with Sandra's work incorporated in them.

 
I love the direction these ceramic pieces are taking me, especially during these cold days these sea treasures warm me up :)

Sandra makes all of the ceramic pieces in her studio in Portugal, all pieces are made by hand, fired at 2012.0 Fahrenheit (1100 degrees Celsius) glazed and then fired again for strength.

More pieces are in the making, so stay tuned!
