Childhood memories and Alice in Wonderland

I was born in a typical Amsterdam house, 3 floors with steep stairs. People who are not familiar with these old stairs are often surprised how steep they are, but those are typical in Amsterdam. Our house had a garage on street level, then 2 floors and the attic, with lots of stairs in between. In the center of the staircase there was an empty space where my mother had bookshelves installed, throughout the entire height of the house it was books books and more books, thousands of books. Beside adult books there were at least a thousand children books as well and one of my most vivid memories of childhood was that I would sit on the stairs, pick up a book and read it then and there. As a single child with a working mother who needed sleep during the weekends I spent my weekends quietly escaping to all kind of magical places, learning English with Dr. Seuss and producing a colorful imagination.

Alice in Wonderland was of course one of my favorites, I actually dressed up like her for a school event, but I am not close to be a fan like Dina Fragola who shares her HUGE collection of Alice in Wonderland themed memorabilia on her blog. As I have been seeing her collection every week I remembered those old days back in Amsterdam, the stairs, the books (which are now due to lack of space mostly in boxes in the attic and we desperately need something like this) and was inspired to create something 'Alice' themed.

We have been creating Little Red Riding hood, Snow-white, The Seven goats and the Wolf, The Puss with Boots, Sleeping Beauty and Hansel and Gretel themed fairy tale clothing so Alice in Wonderland was bound to happen!

With a gorgeously detailed Japanese fabric, a fluffy petticoat lining, a lace trim with on top a red roses trim, the skirt is like a fairy tale itself.

While we were at it we also made one in black :)

Both skirts are available in our clothing shop!
What is your favorite fairy tale?

Monday Moodboard

We were out of town for 3 days, to Izmir for our supply shopping. We had some weird experiences (like always) but this time some things felt like a fairytale. As soon as we got in to Izmir our first stop was IKEA, after that we went to a leather supplier which was on a very busy street. Parking was forbidden but the street was full of parked cars I left the blinkers on just incase. We were gone for 15 minutes and when we got back all cars were gone except for ours and a cop was about to write us a ticket, so I ran to him and stopped him just in time, we got in the car, but the car didn't start! In the mean time the cop was waiting for us to go and I told him that the car didn't start, and funny enough just 20meters further away was a car shop, so I went there and the dead battery was replaced for a new one in 20 minutes and we were again on our way. So within an half hour we saved us a ticket and we got the car fixed, we had stopped at some very weird places on our way, and we were very lucky that the car desided to stop when we were litterally in front of a car shop as Izmir is huge with a population of 6 million and we would have had no idea were to find a repairman. So this was our little fairytale, and here above you can see some gorgeous fairytale like artifacts.

Wishing you a magical week!

A little Magic

From time to time we come across a magical place. Not incredibly beautiful, really magical.
Somehow magic often is a little creepy too, it keeps you on edge as anything can happen.

Today we came across such a place again, in the mountains in a little village this creature caught our attention. Behind it was another creature, mysterious and curious things.

Nature is slowly creeping in to the creature and makes it look even more wonderful.

These were in a garden of a house, and even the house looked like a witch could pop out any minute, see those gourds hanging from the ceiling? I wonder what kind of potion that will make.

If you still don't believe in magic, see this older post of ours and you might change your mind.

And while magic is still in the air, some Mystical Healing Stone Bottle necklaces appeared in our shop :)

Saturday Super Woman

This week's Super Woman is Elsa Mora, better known as Elsita. Originally from Cuba she moved to the USA in 2001 to be with the love of her life, her husband has a carreer in Hollywood so she also has a glamorous side in her life like attending the Oscar awards.

Everything she does is amazing, from original art to paper cutting, jewelry making, miniature books, ceramics, doll making, cloth making and I'm sure I missed or am not aware of many more hidden talents. She has the amazing amount of 5 blogs: Elsita, Miniature Artists Books, The Hidden Seed, Dolls Have Feelings too and All about Papercutting. You can drool over her blogs for a long time, be sure to hold your eyeballs in place :)

On her fashion blog, The hidden seed you can see her outfits, and often selfmade jewelry.

She is also the mother of two, and I think she hardly sleeps to keep up with her artistic mind :)

All her work has something from a fairytale, a magical world which I wish the world would be.

Daily life can also been seen but in the Elsita style, like this Rush Hour necklace, how fun this kind of rush hour would be!

This is just a tiny fraction of what she has made, you'll have to check her blogs and shop to get the entire picture of her talents.

All images are from Elsa Mora's blogs.

Stay tuned for more Super Women!
