Big News!

It has been quiet on our blog, as our life has been hectic these past few weeks! We bought a house!
This has been going on for 4 weeks now but as of Friday the house is officially ours. It is not in he town we live in now but 40km away. The sea is a bit further away but because of that the house was affordable and it is HUGE! It is 375 square meter (4000 square feet). It has a huge basement which is perfect for our work, much more convenient than we now have. The house we live in now is 140 square meters plus my little house of 40 square meters. So this is double the size which is really what we needed with the number of materials we have, and stock of items.

It is brand new we are the first to move in. It does mean that it needs cleaning and as we are now completely broke we are slowly doing it ourselves.

All windows etc still have their stickers but they have been on it for way too long, it has been torture getting them off. The tiles wouldn't be our choice much too crowded, planning something about those!

There is so much stuff we need to buy but we have to wait a few months as we just can't afford it right now, if you were planning to buy something from one of our shops, please buy now :D We need money ha ha! :)

The garden also needs a lot of work. No grass, but trees, giving shade, oxygen and will be a water-efficient garden.

One part of the huge basement, can't wait to move our workspaces in here. At home we now have two workspaces, here it will all be in one which will make things much easier and efficient.

Every time we go to the house we fill up the car, as we can't pay for movers right now we are moving as much as we can ourselves for the moment. Eventually we will need a big truck.

I've been steaming off the window stickers, still a lot of windows to do but I finally found the best way to do it. Good thing we have a steam cleaner.

It says max. 3 months everywhere but it has been a year :/

Can't wait to show the fun part like decorating but things will progress very slowly, I'll show the progress. The house we live in now we will fix up for both Airbnb and to put up for sale. Selling might take a while so we will make sure the house brings money to finance all the work for both houses. It is going to be a hectic year or so, but we are very excited!

Get the Look Vol.13

As soon as something is under a dome it becomes instantly better in my humble opinion. We bought a cute little dome in Florida which I used for this little project below. There is a special sea urchin in it which we found quite a while ago, the dome is the perfect display for it. The dome is plastic and has a hole on top so I was able to pin the sea urchin so that it can not move/break. On top I added starfishes to highlight the star pattern of the sea urchin. Available at StarHomeStudio.

I love the idea of a wall full of old mirrors, more light, and the illusion of more space.
Our mirrors are beautiful antiques with frames made of behind glass painted glass. There are two of them in case you are all for symmetry.

We don't have such large driftwood sticks in the shop, but I'm planning to add some as they are so beautiful, although I might actually use them to make driftwood furniture as it is not easy to find large ones. We do have an interesting farm tool, no idea what it was used for but it is a beautiful decorative piece.

I might have shared my love for maps and globes a few dozen times :) Maps give such character, and ours is actually a 1970's sea map so a combination of map and sea love.

I love vintage gadgets that are not used anymore, I actually remember a big abacus in my first-grade class in the 1980's but we did not use it. This was clearly a pocket edition, a cute little one, and how cute are a bunch together?

Get the Look Vol.7

Kind of a man cave but I dig it :) The maps and mid century chair are always a hit with me.

While magazines are maybe not as popular as they used to be with the internet and all its gossip and what-not it provides, I still like a good old magazine rack near by.

My eternal love for kilims is still going strong, this home has a lot of kilim and boho going on, the kilim is my favorite part, and the cool plants.

I love old shelves, cabinets and cubbies, it seems like everything looks cool in them :)

Get the Look Vol. 4

I've always loved geeky stuff like microscopes, globes, and the like. The look here above is awesome with the botanical prints from GurelanArt with the insects and microscopes as props is super cool, and we are offering a 1950's microscope to get this look too, you can also still use it which is super fun.

I love old chests they look awesome, have something of secrets and treasures and can be used as coffee tables, side tables and of course you can keep your treasures inside.
Our beautiful vintage chest is about a 100 years old, I wonder what treasures it has hold in its time.

There are quite some vintage camera collectors, they are pretty cool, and you can still use them too if you enjoy using film in this crazy digital age :) If you would like to start a collection yourself or already have one (or know someone who has one) this vintage Polaroid will fit right in :)

I love this driftwood 'bouquet'! And it is especially nice for those who love the sea but don't live close by. So we offer beautiful natural driftwood sticks so you can create your own beach vibes :)

Or you could paint them :)

Get the Look Vol.3

I really enjoy scrolling through Pinterest looking at amazing places, things and homes :)
I found a few more home decor ideas which you can accomplish with items from our StarHomeStudio shop. The first is this Pottery Barn Chest, it is distressed to look old, ours below is really a vintage one, all distressing is done with time and use, so the real deal :)

This one might freak out some, I am thoroughly against taxidermy and fur, but skulls, when naturally found, is nothing harmful. This dark grey wall with all the skulls looks pretty impressive.
We currently have 3 skulls in the shop, either found on the beach or in the woods.

I haven't been able to find the source of this image but love the look of it, feather pens, ink pots and some more memories gathered under a glass dome, actually a lot of things look amazing under a dome, don't you think?
We have a set of two 1930's ink pots in the shop, which would look great like that, a perfect gift for writers and calligraphers or collectors in general.

Succulents from LaSelvaSucculents, with seashells from our shop would make great nautical botanical decor pieces :)

Mid Century Revival

I didn't keep my promise to finish the infamous two chairs before starting anything else. As soon as I scored this super cool Mid Century chair I was itching to turn it in a beauty (again).

I love Mid Century furniture the structures are often gorgeous, it was a good period for furniture and a joke with my mum as she is Mid Century too she always has to ad that she is from that same good period and that she turned out well :)

Anyways this chair had gone through some stuff and lost most of the back wood. The entire skeleton was wonky too and needed tender loving care.
First step was to find new sticks for the back which I could not find in our town but did find online locally so I had it in 2 days.

As soon as the old sad webbing was gone and the new sticks in place it already started to look happier.

As we had a few rainy days I could not work outside and made a total mess of the living room (which is by now restored to its usual medium mess).
Sanding and stabilizing the piece took much more time than anticipated, after a few back aching days it was finally ready to be varnished.

New webbing was stapled...

And a mustard colored upholstery fabric stapled on top and below the webbing and the frame was ready!

Mum had scored this gorgeous piece of hand embroidery, I thought it was knitted or woven but it is embroidery, a crazy amount of stitches in gorgeous colors.

The cushions got at the back sides again the same mustard upholstery fabric and on the front the embroidery, a perfect match. The cushion covers have zippers so can be removed for dry cleaning.

Tadaaaaa! Always so very satisfying to see the before and after pictures after days of hard work!

These type of chairs often have pretty boring covers, this embroidery gives it a gorgeous bohemian vibes and makes it totally unique and one of a kind!

The chair is available in our home decor shop among other unique furniture pieces :)
