Cozy Creative Space

We haven't done any update on our move, we are still moving :D It has been almost 6 months, we are still in our old home, going to the new house 3 times a week. Our workspaces are now all there, and everything is almost ordered as it should, I'll blog about the new workspace once everything is done.
With the workspaces not under the same roof Mum has been knitting a lot, here she is very comfy and strictly supervised by the 3 Juanita's. Here an old blogpost about the Juanita's (Lulu, Olivia and Truusje).

Lulu's crescent moon eyes don't miss anything, not a stitch can be dropped under her supervision.

Mum is right now knitting something that requires 8 skeins at once, kind of hellish if you ask me, so she needed a comfortable set up to keep sanity.

The Juanita's do get exhausted, luckily there are 3 of them so they can keep guard in turns.

I do hope that this set up will keep my mother sane, things don't look that good, and she only started yesterday :)

Finally...

We are finally having some hints of Fall, with some rain, cooler nights and leaves changing colors.

After our extremely long and extremely hot Summers we love this time of the year.

Still warm enough to wear t shirts during the day but cold enough to go under a blanket at night, perfect!

Mum's knitting project matches in color, not sure yet what this complicated looking thing is going to be.

But those red leaves are just small patches, we just started Fall and Winter will be here in December, before we know it Summer will begin again.

Flowers are still blooming and butterflies are still buzzing around, unfortunately mosquitoes as well arrrggg.

Bag Maths

Sometimes bag / knitting patterns are no different than crazy maths. This pattern was very confusing as it is 3 dimensional and has lots of color combo's but flat and black and white it was har to follow.

I colored the squares, cut out the pattern and glued it in the shape it was going to be knitted in.

This way Mum could easily follow the pattern without the need to figure out the colors or next row.

The result was pretty cool once finished.

And even cooler once felted! Dried around a little bucket to dry in shape.

I sewed a lining in place and added straps.

And voila a super cool geometric bag!

As it is felted it is firm and water resistant. I love the pattern and the color combo, cheerful and unusual.

The bag is available at StarBags.

Our Creative Space...

Mum has been knitting, well she almost knits non stop its her favorite thing to so (beside buying yarn to knit).
She made these beautiful triangles from 100% to felt after it is all sewn together.

However the bag turned out tiny after felting! After so many hours the result was very small, pretty , but small.

So she started again, this time much bigger triangles.

This time it really turned in to a bag or lets say a decent sized bag :)

Here you can see them together to compare. Looks fun as a mother-daughter duo, but they are available in the bag shop separately.

After mum finished the knitting and felting, I sewed the zippers and linings and riveted leather straps to them. They are available at StarBags, among many other special bags :)

Our Creative Space and a New Family Member

These pictures are actually from a while back but I forgot to blog them :)
Here is mum knitting this top we have in the shop.

Instead of knitting the black and white together (and seeing them through making it grey-ish), mum came with the genius idea of knitting with a gazillion yarn balls, making her crazy in the progress...

Well she did finish it eventually but she had to un-knot the mess every few rows, it was madness really and took ages :)

Aaaand we have a new adopted family member, just when we got to 9 doggies we are back at double digits... she is crazy and seems to be already the head of the pack, she has an attitude but is also very sweet. Her name is Truusje, something very Dutch, but she got the nickname of 'crazy melon' because of her crazy movements and round belly :)

Knitted Beach

Usually when you think about knitting you think about cozy evening close to a heat source with a cup of something hot for the long winter evenings, making sweaters, and other things to keep you warm.

As soon as spring is in the air knitting is a bit forgotten, the sun will warm us up, won't it?

But some genius people come up with great thing to knit like these wonderful shells and starfishes, made with tutorials of Ginx Craft at Craftsy. If you would like to give it a try here is the seashell and here the starfish.

According to my mother, how made them, the tutorials are very clearly written and very well explained so easy to follow.

I think these will make a great beach-y bag, don't you think?

The Magic of Felting

I have done it now several times, but every time is like magic!
Knit, knit, knit till you have an outrageously large and shapeless garment, throw it in the washing machine ...and voila, a perfect fit.

This is a free Ravelry pattern. Don't you love Ravelry? You can find it here.

The pattern is skimpy with directions. The slippers  are knit and than folded in an ingenious way. I strongly recommend that you mark the folding places like you see in the first picture, otherwise, the moment that you start folding you don't know anymore what is up and down and you are toast.

But the slippers are toasty :)
